Snapshot: Red Lagoon

La Laguna Colorada – or Red Lagoon – is one of the many unusual natural phenomena you can see as part of a jeep tour in southern Bolivia. The water is dyed red by the sediment and pigmentation of some algae. 

This was taken in the late afternoon on day two of our tour, which also took in the Uyuni Salt Flats, Tree of Stone and hot springs, amongst other sights.

The photo is tainted with a little bit of disappointment as we were in a hurry to reach our hostel in time to get beds and so only had time for a quick snapshot. Luckily it turned out pretty well.
